Today, Kangerlussuaq is Greenland’s main hub for all air traffic, but many years ago the area was actually a US air base. Of course, the area is much more than that. As far back as the Saqqaq culture, 4,000 years ago, the area was a prime target for hunters. The hunting conditions were incredibly good. Today, the area is enjoyed especially in summer by nature lovers, scientists, and those who go in search of the Northern Lights in winter. Kangerlussuaq is also a great destination for people who want to try dog sledding.

Today, around 500 people live in Kangerlussuaq, which represents just under 1 percent of the Greenlandic population. The residents of Kangerlussuaq, like the rest of Greenland, are proud of their area. During the tour, the guide will tell you a lot about the unique history of the area and what makes Kangerlussuaq so special. You can also hear about how life is lived today by the locals who have settled in the area and live in harmony with the nature and wildlife around them.

On this sightseeing tour, you’ll learn much more about the fascinating history of the area. Here you’ll find Greenland’s longest road network and plenty of opportunities to stop along the way and see a selection of beautiful Greenlandic sights.

On the tour you can experience the harbor with its beautiful views of the fjord. We also drive past Kellyville, a miniature science town. In addition, we also move onto the old base area. During the day, we also stop by the Kangerlussuaq dog kennel, where you can get up close and personal with the Greenlandic sled dog.
